Emerging Doesn’t Mean Rushing
April has a way of quietly suggesting that you should feel better by now.
The days are longer. There’s more light. A sense—sometimes unspoken—that this is the time to reset, to feel motivated again, to move forward.
And yet… you might not feel any of that.
You might still feel tired.
A little flat.
Like you’re moving, but without much energy behind it.
Or perhaps there’s a sense that everyone else has picked up pace—and you’re still trying to find your footing.
This is often where the pressure begins.
Not always loudly. Sometimes it’s subtle.
A quiet thought in the background:
“I should be doing more than this.”
“Why am I not further on?”
“I need to get myself together.”
For many of the women I work with, this pressure feels familiar.
Being capable, dependable, and used to managing means there’s often an expectation—internally or externally—that you will find a way through. That you’ll keep going. That you’ll figure it out.
And most of the time, you do.
But that doesn’t mean it’s not costing you something.
🌿 When You’ve Been Pushing for a Long Time
If you’ve been holding a lot—whether that’s pressure at work, emotional strain, or simply the ongoing mental load of daily life—your system doesn’t just switch back on because the season changes.
It takes time to come out of that.
Time to feel your energy returning.
Time to process what you’ve been carrying.
Time to feel steady again.
But we don’t always allow for that.
Instead, it can feel like there’s a narrow window to “get back on track”—and if you don’t take it, you’re somehow falling behind.
So you push.
You try to create momentum.
You set expectations for yourself.
You tell yourself this is the point where things should shift.
And if they don’t, it can feel frustrating. Or even like you’re failing in some way.
But this is where a different understanding can be helpful.
🌿 Emerging Is Not the Same as Performing
Emerging isn’t something you prove.
It’s not about how quickly you feel better, or how much you get done, or how motivated you can make yourself feel.
It’s much quieter than that.
It’s the moment you begin to notice where you actually are—without immediately trying to change it.
It’s allowing your energy to return at its own pace, rather than forcing it.
It’s recognising that just because you can push through, doesn’t mean that’s what you need.
For many people, especially those who are used to functioning well under pressure, this can feel unfamiliar.
Because slowing down can feel like losing ground.
But often, slowing down is where things begin to stabilise.
🌿 The Pull to Compare
Spring can bring a subtle sense of comparison.
Other people seem to be making plans, feeling energised, moving forward.
And if that doesn’t match your internal experience, it can feel like you’re out of step.
But growth isn’t linear—and it’s rarely visible in the ways we think it should be.
What looks like “doing well” on the outside doesn’t always reflect what’s happening underneath.
And what feels like slow progress, or even stuckness, can often be a necessary part of things shifting.
You don’t need to match anyone else’s pace.
You don’t need to justify where you are.
🌿 A Different Kind of Movement
If rushing isn’t what’s needed, then what is?
Often, it’s something much smaller.
Less about big changes—and more about gentle awareness.
It might look like:
Noticing that you’re tired, and acknowledging it rather than overriding it
Taking one small step instead of trying to do everything at once
Pausing before setting expectations for yourself
Letting something be “good enough” rather than pushing for more
These don’t always feel like progress.
But they create something important—space.
And from that space, something more sustainable can begin.
🌿 You’re Not Behind
If things feel slower than you’d like right now, it doesn’t mean you’re stuck.
It doesn’t mean you’ve missed your moment.
It might simply mean you’re still in the part of the process where things are settling. Where your system is catching up. Where you’re beginning—quietly—to reconnect with yourself again.
And that part matters.
More than pushing.
More than forcing.
More than getting it right.
You’re not behind.
You’re emerging.

Where am I putting pressure on myself to be further ahead than I am—and what might I actually need instead?
